Community Information Technology Ltd, trading as ‘Tiree Broadband’ is a not for profit company established to provide broadband access to the people of Tiree. The company owns and operates a commercial quality wireless network linked to a multi-feed ADSL backhaul. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wireless network allows Tiree Broadband to reach areas of the island outwith the reach of conventional broadband. CIT Ltd is a company limited by shares with 100% of the shares owned by Tiree Community Development Trust.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Tiree Broadband currently has over 150 private and business customers on the island offering a 10mb\/s download speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tiree Broadband regret to inform you that they are not currently able to supply new customers with broadband.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is due to the network being at capacity. We are happy to add you to the waiting list on the understanding that we will be unlikely to connect you within the next 12-24 months.\u00a0If you are resident and have no other alternative, please get in touch. We will review the situation on a case by case basis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our Service<\/span><\/span><\/div>

We offer unmetered broadband to residential and business customers on Tiree on a not for profit basis. The service is intended to match closely that offered by fixed link providers, both in bandwidths and costs. We provide a 10Mbps download 2Mbps upload service that is no capped or limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The service is VPN-capable allowing individual users to connect securely to company systems outside of our network. The typical cost of each installation in terms of equipment is several hundred pounds. We, therefore, ask potential customers to ensure that they do not have the possibility of getting a service through BT, as some houses within our catchment area can, before subscribing to Tiree Broadband. As we are keen to spend our limited resources on those households that have no chance of getting broadband coverage from anywhere else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are struggling with your connection try these steps first:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No Connection<\/strong>
Re-boot your subscriber unit (turn it off, wait and turn it on again).
Re-boot your computer
Is email working?\/ Can you browse the Internet? If either email or the internet is working, but the other isn\u2019t then your broadband connection is working and you will need to check the configuration of the program that isn\u2019t working.

Slow Connection<\/strong>
Re-boot your subscriber unit (turn it off, wait and turn it on again) particularly if there have been any power outages recently.
Check that your computer is not performing any background tasks (Windows Update, Virus Update etc.)
Remember, the network will get busy at popular\/peak times and this will affect speeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
